2nd Year Collaboration with the Hugh Lane Gallery - Teen Culture Club

“During May 2021 students from Ardscoil La Salle and Trinity Comprehensive took part in our Teen Culture Club at the Hugh Lane Gallery during online sessions. There were two sessions exploring the work of sculptor Maud Cotter, whose exhibition at Hugh Lane Gallery runs from 2 June-8 August. The students were introduced to the work of visual artist Maud Cotter through art activities led by artists Marie Farrington and Helena Gouveia Monteiro.”

“Visual artist Marie Farrington leading this session online had shown the students sculpture works by artists Maud Cotter, Rachel Whiteread, Dorothy Cross and Ai Wei Wei. They had discussed assemblage, the ‘readymade’, the power of materials, positive and negative space, casting and more. “

“In this session at Ardscoil La Salle, 2nd Year Art students shared the work they had previously made. Colourful cardboard sculpture experiments were made with the artist and photographed for the Teen Blog. Playing with contrast of geometrical shapes and colours those cardboard structures are assembled with wire which creates a sense of fragility in the whole sculpture although the combination of monochrome colours gives a sense of sturdiness. The small scale of those assemblages somehow recalls construction of architectural models which incites us to think more about how material and space defines our surroundings. “
